the future:
The Holocaust shall forever be remembered as one of the most traumatizing events of World War II and history thus far. Although the Nazi party's mass killings were eventually stopped, the affair led to the death of over 6 million Jews. Upon further research, it is estimated that there were over 30,000 slave labor camps, 1,150 Jewish ghettos, 980 concentration camps, 500 brothels filled with sex slaves, and 1,000 prisoner-of-war camps ("Timeline"). These acts of violence and the Nazi party's violation of human rights prompted the United Nations to say the infamous phrase "Never again." This quote however proves to be one of the world's most unfulfilled promises. Today, genocide still presents a large problem in countries such as Syria, North Korea, Sudan, Afghanistan, and more (Lichtblau). What steps can be done to remember the Holocaust? And, how can we make a difference to stop genocide today?
"The future starts today, not tomorrow."
-Pope John Paul II
